NYC City Guide

Unfold your New York City adventure

New York City is the type of place where even grabbing coffee promises an interesting story afterward—a long bike ride makes for an even more entertaining tale. Thanks to the city’s five boroughs, New York invites you on a broad variety of adventures with your Brompton, all with the flair and intrigue you can navigate on a bike.

Be sure to note – this isn’t a guide for tourist attractions in the Big Apple. We'll leave that to the pros in Times Square. Instead, we’ve made a list of our favorite local dives and spots you can bike to and from around New York City. Plus, all places that will let you bring your folded Brompton inside.

Where to go for food

Roberta's

Relax after your bike ride with a pizza and some snacks from Roberta’s in Bushwick. A Brooklyn neighborhood known for eclectic street art, Roberta’s comes to the local bites table with a list of pies that are as unique as they are decadent. Try the Bee Sting if you can handle a little heat. It’s got the basics of a classic slice you know and love – tomato and mozzarella – then made punchier with spicy soppressata, chili, and honey.

Kalye

Make a night out of your evening spin with dinner at Kalye. In Tagalog, “kalye” means street, inspiring founder Rob Mallari-D’Auria to bring the vibrant culture of Manila to the Lower East Side. Each dish on his menu proudly showcases the rich and authentic flavors of Filipino cuisine, including his famed “Boodle Fight” dinner. Served on banana leaves and enjoyed without utensils, this feast and communal dining tradition embodies the spirit of togetherness with your Brompton party, making for a truly special experience before getting back on the road.

Birria-Landia

You can’t bike to Queens without stopping by Birria-Landia's first location in Jackson Heights. As one of New York’s most famed food trucks, Birria-Landia only has four options on the menu – but they do each one spectacularly. Specializing in Tijuana-style birria meat, your mouth will water before the first bite. Don’t forget to order consomé to dip with your tacos. You can either dine outside the truck, or you can strap it in your Brompton basket for the ride home.

Carnitas Ramirez

The sister restaurant to Greenpoint’s Taqueria Ramirez, Carnitas Ramirez, newly opened in the East Village, is an appetizing pitstop while cycling around lower Manhattan. One look at their Instagram grid is enough to hop on your bike right now to get in line for their pork-based tacos. You and your social media story will be fed. Wash 'em down with a Mexican Coke, and we swear you’ll daydream about the meal on your trek home.

Ramen by Ra

Inside the Bowery Market, you’ll find Ramen by Ra, the first Black and female-owned ramen restaurant in New York City. Inspired by breakfast/brunch Asa-ramen in Japan, chef Rasheeda Purdie serves five different ramen bowls that are both hearty and rich. Fold up your bike and snag a chair at this five-seat dining counter experience. The Bacon, Soy Egg & Cheese ramen is the stuff of a New Yorker’s dreams.

Where to go for shopping

The Ripped Bodice

If you’re the type of bike rider who romanticizes every commute no matter the destination, you’ll love Park Slope’s romance-only bookstore, The Ripped Bodice. Proudly Woman and Queer-owned, readers will appreciate their extensive collection of diverse fiction in the genre. Their branded merch is a treat too, featuring cool and empowering designs that make the best gifts for the bibliophiles in your life.

Mexico in My Pocket

Although it’s impossible to fully rep the wide range of arts and culture in Mexico, entrepreneur, Luisa Navarro, celebrates a meaningful glimpse into all the beauty the country has to offer at her boutique, Mexico In My Pocket. Sourcing artisan goods and products from Mexican small businesses, there’s always something new to check out. Stop by on your next bike outing in Brooklyn. Maybe you’ll leave with a cookbook on authentic Mexican food or a chic pair of huaraches just in your size.

Tula House

Plants make lovely company in a city like New York. They’re quiet, good listeners, and pretty, each in their own way. Cyclists and plant parents have this in common: a shared appreciation for nature with the patience to enjoy a journey more than its outcome. At Tula House, a Brooklyn-based plant shop, you can expect lush, green additions to your living space – along with expert plant maintenance tips and care.

Where to go for fun

Syndicated

Cap your bike ride in the city with a cocktail and movie at Bushwick’s Syndicated theater. A small dine-in cinema, typically showing arthouse flicks, we recommend ordering some appetizers and enjoying them at showtime. Their drink menu is named after icons in film history like the Espresso Martini Scorese and My Neighbor Sloetoro. Great for your Strava and Letterboxd accounts, you won’t regret making it out to Brooklyn for Syndicated.

Vacations

As the name suggests, Vacations is the kind of bar you go to when you’re in dire need of an escape after a long workday. A getaway to the Hamptons is too expensive on short notice, and the Rockaways are a bit too far just on a whim. Head to Vacations instead with your Brompton and enjoy what feels like a night out by the beach – minus the droves of tourists.

Where to go for a bike tune-up

Visit our mechanic team at the New York Brompton Junction (287 Bleecker St) for your bike tune-up. Or you can stop by and get to know our New York-area Brompton dealers including: NYC Velo, Redbeard Bikes, Bfold, Sun and Air, King Kog, Bicycle Roots and Bicycles NYC. We recommend giving them a call beforehand to see which services they offer at their specific shop.
